The Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG, German Research Foundation) has published a schedule for the decision-making process for funding basic services in the National Research Data Infrastructure. In January 2022, the call for proposals for basic service consortia will be published. The final decision on funding will be made by the Gemeinsame Wissenschaftskonferenz (GWK, Joint Science Conference) in November 2022. Until then, following steps are planned:

- March 21, 2022: Binding pre-registration of proposals for basic service consortia
- April 29, 2022: Deadline for submission of proposals for basic service consortia
- May 2022: Review
- June 2022: Vote by the NFDI scientific senate
- July 2022: Evaluation by the NFDI expert panel
