The importance of professionally trained personnel in research data management is increasing. They act as an interface between infrastructure and research. Therefore, in addition to data competence, a range of methodological skills, discipline knowledge and social skills is required.

In recent years, various training and continuing education programs have been developed in which these competencies can be acquired. We would like to introduce three part-time courses that are also aimed at researchers. Note: Since the role and job descriptions in research data management are still under development, terminologies regarding job titles, areas of competence and curricula are used inconsistently from time to time.

Certificate Course Research Data Management

  • Provider: State Initiative for Research Data Management of the State of North Rhine-Westphalia (fdm.nrw) and ZB MED - Information Center for Life Sciences
  • Next start: 01.09.2023 (registration open until 02.05.2023)
  • Duration: 10 months; time required: 240 hours
  • Form: Blended learning course with an alternation of in-person sessions (about 80 hours, depending on module selection) and subsequent self-learning phases (about 125 hours), optional: project work (about 35 hours)
  • Costs: Course fee 2.500,- €, travel expenses are to be paid by the participants themselves
  • Language: German

Master Program Digital Data Management (DDM)

  • Provider: Berlin School of Library and Information Science at Humboldt University Berlin and Information Science Department at Potsdam University of Applied Sciences
  • Start: Every summer semester (registration deadline: mid-January)
  • Duration: 4 semesters; four weekends per semester
  • Form: Alternation between online and in-person teaching
  • Costs: Tuition fees 7.900,- € (1.975,- € per semester) + semester fees (approx. 116 € each)
  • Language: German
