The code "Guidelines for Safeguarding Good Scientific Practice" („Leitlinien zur Sicherung guter wissenschaftlicher Praxis“, Kodex) of the German Research Foundation (Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft, DFG) was agreed on in the General Assembly of the DFG on 3rd of July 2019, and will come into effect on 1st of August 2019. It replaces the memorandum "Safeguarding Good Scientific Practice" which has been revised fundamentally by a committee of ten experts from August 2018 till February 2019, and is still in effect until the end of July.

Aim of the code is to enable researchers as well as heads of universities, universities of applied sciences and non-university research institutions to align their internal stuctures, processes, and activities with the Guidelines for Safeguarding Good Scientific Practice. With this, a culture of scientific integrity is supposed to be reinforced in these institutions, which is not meant by thinking about violations of Good Scientific Practice, but rather led by the researchers' professional ethics.
