All zedif courses are also open for interested students, especially for those working on a scientific thesis (Bachelor, Master, Staatsexamen, etc). In addition to that, the Project Data Literacy Jena (DaLiJe) offers further courses that are specifically designed for students at all stages of their study programmes (including at very early stages).
Data Literacy Jena (DaLiJe)
Data is becoming increasingly important in our society. Therefore, the ability to handle data in an organized fashion, to use it consciously in the respective context and to scrutinize it criticaly are important qualifications. This is not only true for study and research but also in many other fields of work and the general social participation.
The offerings of the project Data Literacy Jena are aimed at enabling students from all study programmes to expand their competencies in the handling of data. Various course formats are available for this purpose, which you can choose according to your own prior knowledge, thematic interests and time available.
Hands-on Sessions
The Data Literacy Hands-on Sessions are individual courses where we introduce a topic, method, or tool in 90 minutes. Each semester, we offer a rotating course programme that covers various aspects of data and digitisation.
These sessions provide the opportunity to discover new software, develop insights into data-based methods, or critically engage with issues relating to data and digitisation in society.
Workshops
In collaboration with partners, we organize courses and workshops on different topics revolving around the handling of data. We focus on beginner courses that enable students without prior knowledge to get in contact with important topics, methods, and tools. The workshops take place in the lecture-free period and are open for all students of the University.
Certificate Programme
The interdisciplinary Data Literacy certificate programme (DaLiJe) is offered for anyone who wants to delve deeper into the topic of data. The programme offers three levels and a certificate can be rewarded after the successful participation in the respective level.
All students at the University are welcome to participate, independent of their discipline. No special prior knowledge is required.
Datathon
The Datathon is a three-day event where students work in interdisciplinary teams on real challenges. In collaboration with regional institutions, we provide data and real-life challanges to be addressed during the event.
All interested students, regardless of whether they are beginners or already have deeper experience with dealing with data, can participate.
